John called his recovery from drug addiction “a rebuilding process. A reclamation process“, and I would add that perhaps it’s also a redemptive measure, or at least an attempt to it. The process he named as “creating the new John“ was the re-pavement of a road he had damaged himself. And that re-pavement, which in the case of an addict is ongoing, takes both time and a lot of hard-work. But if there’s a glimmer of success - and in John’s case, he had much more than just a glimmer - the rewards are incalculable.
